Professor Shaoqing Zhang is one of the outstanding scientists in the field of hydrogen treatment of materials. His scientific activities involve the problems of hydrogenation characteristics of titanium alloys (a , a + b , b and a 2 types), microstructural changes and phase transformations, the technology of hydrogen treatment of titanium alloys and hydrogen-induced hot plasticity and superplasticity of titanium alloys. The microstructure was modified and the mechanical properties were significantly improved by hydrogen treatment proposed by him. His studies showed that the addition of a small amount of hydrogen into titanium alloys significantly improved the superplasticity and hot plasticity.
