Professor Hirohisa Uchida started his research with hydrogen at Tokai University and continued it at Max-Planck-Institute for Metals Research (1975-81) and University of Stuttgart, Germany for his Ph.D. (1977). As Professor at Tokai University since 1981 he is active with basic and applied research such as solar vehicle technology using Ni-MH battery, effective heat transport using hydrogen storage alloys, microactuators for space technology using gianmagnetostrictive thin films and creation of new magnetic materials under microgravity.
His activities have been appeared as 153 scientific papers, 10 books, 12 patents and 108 reports in newspapers and magazines. He has received awards from Minister of Studies of Rare Earth Intermetallics as Functional Materials (1997), International Association for Hydrogen Energy for Scientific Achievements in the field of Hydrogen Treatment of Materials (1998) and the World Solar Car Ralley Committee, Japan for Challenging Solar-Hydrogen Technology with Enlarged Ni-MH Battery (1998).
