Prof. Yasunori Hayashi is known as one of the leading researchers in the field of metal-hydrogen problems. His works are: permeation of hydrogen through iron and its alloys; modulation of electrical and optical properties of metal oxides and nitrides by hydrogen treatment. In the permeation experiment he discussed the separation of a surface process from a diffusion process, and gave reasonable values of a diffusion coefficient of hydrogen in iron. Works on hydrogen effect on the properties of compounds are now in progress proceeding.
