CRE

What is CRE?

CRE is the association of European universities. Founded in 1959, in 1999, its members total 523 universities, equivalent institutions of higher education and associate members in 40 European countries. Directed by a President, its governing structure comprises an eight-member Board, a Commitee of thirty-seven members, and General Assembly consisting of all the member institutions represented by their executive heads.

Aims and functions - As a non governmental international organization with its own constitution, depenndent solely on its members, CRE is a forum for university leaders from all over the continent. It actively promotes the European dimension of academic and institutional activities by facilitating dialogue and cooperation among its members. The association strives to represent European universities' interests in policy-making for higher education and research, as well as to enhance contact between the academic community, governments, industry and the media. Today, CRE is recognized as a priveleged partner by national and international organizations active in higher education, research and training in Europe.

Activities - CRE activities therefore tend to explore the common interests and problems of members. Possibilities for increased cooperation are identified and often translate into university networking.

In the hope that the CRE will enable you to develop further contacts with other European universities, I remain

Yours sincerely,
