On September 11, 2017, Donetsk National Technical University held a ceremony of awarding Sergey Antonyuk an Honorary Doctorate Degree. Sergey Antonyuk is a professor, Head of the Department of Mechanical Technological Processes at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern.

I. Antoniuk is an Honorary Graduate of the department “Machines and Apparatus of Chemical Production” of DonNTU. After receiving his PhD in Ukraine, he went on to study for his Doctoral Degree at the Otto von Györike University Magdeburg.

Nowadays, the Professor works in cooperation with many universities and international research centers and institutions all over the world. Also, he supervises the annual internship of undergraduate and postgraduate students from the UK, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Russia, China, and other countries.

Special attention should be paid to the work that is done in cooperation with the higher educational institutions of Ukraine, first of all with Donetsk National Technical University in the matters which concern the internships and scientific researches of undergraduate and postgraduate students and university teachers in the field of discrete materials in modern machine building and chemical technology.

The range of his scientific works is wide and varied: contact mechanics and the dynamics of fracture of particles and agglomerates; filtering liquids and gases; agglomeration, granulation and coating in a fluidized layer; simulation of the computational hydrodynamics of multiphase flows.

Professor Antoniuk has a number of honors for his scientific work. Thanks to his support in 2009, two joint research projects were started in two universities (TUHH and DonNTU). The topic was “Thermomechanical interactions of particles and granules in processes and apparatuses of chemical technology” and “Development of a software environment for the simulation of solid particles by the method of discrete elements” were established between”, which is the basis for many theses and dissertations.

Taking into account the contribution of Professor Antonyuk into the cooperation between the universities of Germany and DonNTU, the fact of awarding an Honorary Doctorate Degree was very logical and natural. The Rector and Vice-Rectors who were present at the ceremony warmly welcomed the professor and expressed their hopes for further successful international partnership.

Within the framework of the event the first-year students were given an open lecture by Professor Antonyuk and his postgraduate student Paul Broninger, during which they told about the University of Kaiserslautern. The honored lecturers went into detail by telling the students about their activities and cooperation with DonNTU. At the end of the lecture they answered the questions and encouraged the students to study hard.
