Every autumn in Ukraine there are events that introduce the culture, language and traditions of Germany to us. ‘Weeks of Germany” were held again at our University this year. It seems that the DonNTU has already started a pleasant tradition of hosting this event. The event was hosted under name “Germany – From Partnership to Friendship”. We were very glad to welcome our German guests in Pokrovsk: General Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Donetsk, Wolfgang Moussinger, and the DAAD lecturer in the city of Dnipro, Olaf Mitteltstrass.

All interested in the event had an opportunity to attend a lecture on “DAAD Scientific and Educational Programs for Students, Teachers, and Scientists in 2018/19”, as well as a seminar on the topic: “Application for scholarship for scientific and educational programs DAAD”. These important events were organized with the participation of the DAAD lecturer Olaf Mitteltstrass. All the present found the lecture cognitive and informative. It provided the students and teachers with the opportunity to navigate in a large number of science and education programs and identify the area that has the best chance of getting a DAAD grant. Studying in Germany is becoming more and more affordable. Olaf Mitteltrasrass talked about that and shared his experiences with students and teachers. He also talked on the points which should be paid special attention to if you would like to study in Germany. The seminar “Submission of applications for scholarship in the DAAD scientific and educational programs” turned to be very useful from a practical point of view. The attendees had an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the existing rules for applying for the DAAD scholarship. We were able to get detailed and helpful advice concerning each item from Mr. Olaf Mitteltrasrass. We hope next academic year our university more applicants from our university will apply and receive the DAAD scholarships!

At the end of the roundtable, there was a friendly meeting under the title “German unites” with teachers, post-graduate students and undergraduate students of DonNTU. The participants were able to chat with the German guests over a cup of coffee in a relaxed atmosphere and talk about current scientific and educational projects with educational institutions in Germany, which are currently active at our University. The round table participants had an opportunity to receive replies for their questions from the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany Wolfgang Moussinger and the DAAD lecturer, Olaf Mitteltstrass on some topical issues. Some teachers and students remembered this year because of their first meeting with Germany. Our round table was very warm and emotional. The participants spoke different languages: English, Russian, Ukrainian, but they were all united by the German language! Once again, our meeting proved that getting acquainted with other culture and learning languages enriches our inner world and broadens the horizons.

We hope that the tradition of hosting “Weeks of Germany” in our University will be another bridge that will enable our partnership to become really friendly.

For those who were not able to attend the events but who are interested in applying for DAAD programs, Mr Olaf Mitteltrass left lots of newsletters that can be found at the International Relations Department.
